School-days, I believe, are the unhappiest in the whole span of human existence. They are full of dull, unintelligible tasks, new and unpleasant ordinances, brutal violations of common sense amd common decency. It doesn't take a reasonably bright boy long to discover that most of what is rammed into him is nonsense, and that no one really cares very much whether he learns it or not.
-- H. L. Mencken
What Mencken said may be true, but only partly so. Many will want to agree with him, but one should bear in mind that school is not all about just homework, terrific teachers, class assignments, bullies, and all those things which are unpleasant. School is much more than that, isnt it?
In words of R. Buckminster Fuller, children are born true scientists. They spontaneously experiment and experience and reexperience again. They select, combine, and test, seeking to find order in their experiences - "Wich is the mostest? Which is the leastest?" They smell, taste, bite, and touch-test for hardness, softness, springiness, roughness, smoothness, coldness, warmness: the heft, shake, punch, squeeze, push, crush, rub, and try to pull things apart.
And all this, would never, ever take place if there were no schools.
Yup, school is cool.
